Do you need a personnummer?

For most certificates, no. Travel and cancellation certificates, insurance and fit-to-fly assessments, and certificates for work abroad, studies or a visa can all be done with your passport. Certificates for a Swedish driving licence or taxi ID are reported to Transportstyrelsen, so they need a Swedish personnummer or coordination number.

Applying for or renewing a licence for a truck or bus? Transportstyrelsen requires a medical certificate. We send it to them digitally, so it needs a Swedish personnummer or coordination number. That makes it a certificate for people who live in Sweden, not for visitors. The vision test is included.

Applying for a Swedish taxi driver ID (taxiförarlegitimation)? You need a medical certificate issued within two months of your application. Like the driving licence certificate, it is sent to Transportstyrelsen and needs a Swedish personnummer or coordination number. The vision test is included.
